Monthly Meetings of the Black Leadership Kitchen Cabinet

A foster care services organization, Unity Care Group, Inc., serves youth and families across northern California. Alongside seeking to support and empower foster and at-risk youth, Unity Care also contributes to local community-building organizations, such as the Black Leadership Kitchen Cabinet (BLKC). Founder and CEO André Chapman is also the Co-Chair of the BLKC.

Founded in 2005 to serve the African American community in Santa Clara county, BLKC focuses on finding solutions for social problems and improving community offerings in education, healthcare, and other fields. The BLKC draws its membership from a diverse range of community organizations, churches, businesses, agencies, groups, and individuals.

As part of its mission, the BLKC hosts monthly meetings to address key issues impacting the lives of African Americans in the county. Community leaders speak on important topics, ranging from cultural sensitivity to eliminating the gap of education achievement.

Community organizations rotate in hosting these monthly meetings and sharing information about their services to the African American community. Once speakers at the monthly meetings bring up issues to address, the BLKC places the concerns in the hands of the committees to explore solutions and find resolution.
